Northwestern Medicine is standardizing eye protection across the health system to reduce the risk of blood and bodily fluids exposures (BBFE).
Beginning November 5, staff should use only eye protection that meets guidelines set by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). These products have been shown to have a proper face seal, which should provide protection and prevent exposure.
The eye protection being offered can be used in any patient care situation, such as caring for patients who are unmasked and COVID-19 positive, or when performing a procedure or duty in which a splash to the eyes is anticipated.
Any eye protection that does not meet ANSI and OSHA standards must be replaced with an approved product. Please make sure that your team members have approved eye protection by checking the list of products available on this information guide.
If your team does not have approved eye protection, you must order replacements by October 5 so your team can begin using it by November 5.
